John Ray & Sons Introduces Pink into Fleet To Help Fight Breast Cancer

Thursday, October 2, 2008 – John Ray & Sons has introduced a new truck into its fleet. But rather than sporting the well-known John Ray colors of yellow and red, this truck is pink with a definite purpose.

The truck is part of a new two-year program at the Troy-based company, “Fueling a Cure.” The program will provide breast cancer awareness to the community and monetary contributions to support the Northeastern New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Painted in the Foundation’s signature colors of pink and white, a portion of the proceeds from each gallon of oil delivered by the truck will benefit the NENY Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. All funds will support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment in the Capital Region.

Similar to a moving billboard, this truck will cover approximately 1,000 miles per week, delivering fuel oil to homes and businesses in an eight-county area: Albany, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren and Washington.

“Starting ‘Fueling the Cure’ in October has particular significance since this is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM),” Mr. Ray said.

“Since my grandfather founded the company more than 100 years ago, we have continually strived to expand our services and capabilities. The new pink truck is our latest effort to serve the community that has supported us for more than a century,” Mr. Ray noted.

As part of their community involvement, John Ray’s pink truck will be at the 2008 NENY Komen Race for the Cure that begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. For more information, or to register, visit

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists and has invested nearly $1 billion dollars to fulfill their mission. They have become the largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Locally, the Northeastern New York Affiliate, now in its 14th year, serves an 11-county area of New York and has raised over $1.5 million dollars for local breast health and breast cancer outreach, education, screening and treatment.
